IACC Increases Engagement in China

Last week IACC President Bob Barchiesi gave a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the Quality Brand Protection Committee’s (QBPC) 2018 China Forum on Criminal IP Protection held from July 10-13 in Jiangsu, China. The QBPC, along with Jack Chang and other leaders, has been a strategic partner over the last few years in promoting IP rights protection in China.

The opening ceremony also featured distinguished speakers from the Ministry of Public Security Economic Crime Investigation Division (MPS ECID), Office of the National Leading Group on the Fight against IPR Infringement and Counterfeiting, Delegation of the European Union to China, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), INTERPOL, U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai, and the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group.

The IACC’s participation in the Forum is part of the organization’s efforts to support and collaborate on anti-counterfeiting efforts globally, especially in Asia.

In the past three years, the IACC participated several in high level IP conferences such as the Cross-Border E-commerce 50 Leaders Summit held in Foshan City, Guangdong Province in 2016, and the Second China Brand Development Forum held in Shanghai in May 2018. During Brand Development Forum, Chinese companies were recognized as part of the 2018 Top 100 Chinese brands.

The IACC also hosted Chinese officials in Washington D.C. on several occasions. The IACC met with a delegation of government officials in 2015 at the National Crime Museum, then again in 2017 when officials from the Hangzhou Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) visited the US.

In May, Bob Barchiesi was invited to become a Vice Chair of the World Brand Alliance, headed by Liu Pingjun, President of the China Council for Brand Development (CCBA).

The IACC’s dialogue with Chinese officials and companies will continue when the organization brings a delegation of brand members to China at the end of the year.

The IACC’s work with China is part of the organization’s commitment to enhance the enforcement of IP rights and anti-counterfeiting efforts around the world.
