IACC Launches Global PSA Campaign - Kickoff in NYC
June 9, 2008
New York City - Bob Barchiesi, President of the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition announced today the launch of a Public Service Ad Campaign joining forces with the City of New York and with global brands representing the music industry, luxury goods, apparel, automotive, software and pharmaceuticals. The ads, which will be in kiosks up and down Canal Street, are targeted toward consumers willing to purchase counterfeit goods.
"The message is clear," said Barchiesi, "counterfeiting is not a victimless crime. Consumers who knowingly purchase counterfeit goods are supporting forced child labor, inferior and sometimes deadly products and are costing the City of New York a billion dollars in much needed tax revenue. Winning the battle against counterfeiting demands a unified front by brand owners around the world and the resolve of governments to confront this problem at every level."
The campaign on Canal Street will run for six weeks during the summer and then again for six weeks during the winter holiday season. The campaign will be supplemented with streaming messages displayed in New York's Times Square at Eastman Kodak Company's Jumbotron as well as Reuters Digital Billboard. Barchiesi estimates that the anti-counterfeiting message will reach millions of viewers daily.
"I would like to thank Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor Ed Skyler and the Mayor's Office of Special Enforcement for their continuing efforts to rid NYC of inferior and dangerous fake products. I would also like to thank Kodak, Reuters and all of our global brand partners who recognize the efficacy of a unified approach by brand owners," added Mr. Barchiesi.
