GENERAL FUNCTION

The North America Intellectual Property Protection Manager (NAIPPM) manages the Intellectual Property (IP) Protection Department in the region. The NAIPPM manages the strategy developed at the corporate level to safeguard the brands managing the day by day activity with the local vendors as well as building up relationships with the local authorities dealing in the IP environment. Investigates and manages all brand protection activities within North America to include anti-counterfeiting, product diversion, and unauthorized use of Luxottica’s intellectual property.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies and monitors relevant threats to house brands/markets in the region.
  • Provides reports to management and subsidiaries by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing the activity.
  • Implements the global IP protection strategy in the region also defining the best approach to prevent and solve brands/patents violations issues:
    • Manages the development and improvement of local investigative firms to ensure consistency in their relationships with various enforcement agencies, assuring that these relationships are legal, ethical and that they meet all of Luxotticas' standards.
    • Follows up on cases submitted by the local vendors and ensures timely reporting of threat information to the local business team and to the Director, Intellectual Property Protection Director – Americas.
    • Interfaces with the IP on-line enforcement team to address the actions based on the business concerns and local web based specific problems (marketplaces enforcement, on-line Trademark infringements, etc.).
    • Provides the Director, Intellectual Property Protection Director - Americas with the intelligence to share with the international enforcement organizations (CBP, DHS, UNODC, INTERPOL, EUROPOL, etc.).
    • Manages and updates anti-counterfeiting training materials for customs and LE agents and organizes regular training sessions.
    • Supports the global IP organization by identifying high level targets within the region (distributors and manufacturers).
    • Attends IP related meetings/conferences within the region to acquire the best practices.
    • Prepares Pre-litigation and case analysis.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • A four year college degree or equivalent work experience
  • 6+ years Brand Protection / Investigative experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four year college degree is preferred
  • 8+ years brand protection/Investigative experience with 4 - 6 years in a supervisory or management level position
  • Anti-piracy/anti-counterfeiting & brand protection/investigations experience
  • Strong ability to build solid cases in preparation for settlements or prosecution
  • Effective communications and presentation skills, including the ability to present and inspire confidence in senior management
  • A firm understanding of e-commerce platforms and how they function
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including an ability to drive consensus, generate creative solutions to meet deadlines, and maintain a positive, service-oriented attitude
  • Proven ability to make prudent, independent decisions with limited supervision when needed
  • Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office suite
