Summary

The Trademark Paralegal/Brand Protection Specialist will support our legal, product, marketing, and other business teams on intellectual property protection and enforcement matters as well as support our brand protection and anti-counterfeiting initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare U.S. trademark-related documents for filing, including applications, renewals, assignments and other prosecution documents
  • Execute on strategy to monitor and combat potential counterfeiting activities
  • Assist with analysis of suspected counterfeited products
  • Serve as central point of contact and direct internal workflow related to anti-counterfeiting activities
  • Collaborate and liaise with national customs and border patrol authorities
  • Support legal actions taken against counterfeiters
  • Provide training to business units and partners to support anti-counterfeiting strategy
  • Assist with reporting to business units regarding efficacy of brand protection efforts
  • Communicate and partner with internal clients regarding selection, clearance, adoption, usage, and registration of trademarks
  • Conduct preliminary US and international screening searches, analyze search results, and draft search summaries and recommendations for counsel
  • Manage and correspond with outside counsel regarding trademark issues
  • Assist with trademark enforcement activities, monitor watch notices, draft letters to trademark applicants of conflicting and/or infringing marks, draft cease and desist letters
  • Assist with the overall management of Carhartt’s trademark portfolio; manage docket to ensure deadlines are met

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Required Skills and Experience

  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred, but not required
  • 5 years of prior, relevant experience preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to effectively liaise with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent project and workflow management skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Thorough understanding of the laws and rules that govern trademarks
  • Strong research skills and experience utilizing on-line tools such as the USPTO website, international databases, and other relevant software
