IACC Hosts over 40 Brands and 180 Participants in Latest Virtual Training for CBP

August 3, 2021

IACC Virtual Law Enforcement Training Summary
Port of Newark
July 27th, 28th & 29th

The IACC continued its virtual CBP training program with a three-day series of instruction. Over 40 brands from the Health & Safety, Pharmaceuticals, Electronics/Software/Hardware, Apparel & Footwear, Personal Care and Consumer Mass Marketing categories presented to CBP Officers, Import Specialists as well as Fines, Penalties & Forfeiture personnel on their latest materials and trends in the fight against fakes. Over the three-day period, the IACC hosted over 180 participants.

CBP was provided the training agenda in advance, enabling officials to schedule and attend only those presentations that interested them. The schedule was maintained from the 8:30 am start to the 12:30 pm conclusion, ensuring each category began on time. After the instruction, brands were able to share their materials with CBP-Port of Newark for inclusion in their database.

CBP officials and rights holders received a presentation of the IACC Law Enforcement Training App that enhances collaborative efforts between industry and law enforcement, allowing brand materials to be accessed by law enforcement 24/7/365. Contact Mike Walsh mwalsh@iacc.org for more information.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the members of Customs & Border Protection, especially the Port of Newark for their assistance in organizing these events. The IACC supports and thanks all members of law enforcement for their ongoing service.

These collaborative events between government and industry serve to strengthen enforcement and increase their ability to deter sales of counterfeit products and effectively interdict violators. The IACC continues to explore training opportunities for its members and will hold virtual training with HSI, hosted at the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center in Alexandria, Virginia. Brands from our Personal Care/Medical Devices Working Group will join us in-person for this hybrid videocast to agents throughout the US.

We will also be conducting a virtual training in San Francisco in the near future, so more details and dates will be announced soon.
