IACC Hosts Successful First Joint Forum in Shanghai with the

IACC Deepens Engagement in China via MOU with CCBD

On March 26, IACC and the China Council for Brand Development (CCBD) jointly hosted their first 2019 International Forum on Brand Protection. The ground-breaking Forum, the IACC’s first major event in China, gathered close to 150 attendees from Chinese and non-Chinese brands as well as state and provincial governmental agencies. The Forum was designed for Chinese and foreign brands to share experiences in brand development best practices and trends, as well as IP protection strategies.

IACC President Bob Barchiesi opened the Forum welcoming members from QBPC, IACC and the Alibaba Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance (AACA). He discussed IACC’s long history of engagement in China as well as with associations and governments around the world. He looked forward to working with CCBD to jointly promote brand development and IP protection issues. CCBD President Liu Pingjun joined Mr. Barchiesi in welcoming the attendees and emphasized the important role that brand protection plays in brand development.

The Forum also featured high-level keynote remarks from Ms. Lu Zhengmin, Deputy Director of the National Leading Group in the Fight Against IPR Infringement and Counterfeiting; Mr. Huang Sufu, Deputy Mayor of Nanping City; Mr. Jack Chang, Vice Chairman of the Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC), and Mr. Brook Li, Head of IP Operations of the Alibaba Group.

Cynthia Tregillis, IACC Board Member and Deputy General Counsel at Western Digital presented at the conference and shared Western Digital’s experience in brand protection. David Simpson, IACC Member and Brand Protection Consulting Director, Asia, Calvin Klein also participated in a panel discussion on international brand development trends and best practices.

Following the presentations, the IACC and CCBD signed an MOU to formalize their partnership. Forum attendees further networked at a cocktail reception following the Forum.
