Counterfeit jewelry is seemingly everywhere online. In an effort to try to stop it, one jewelry retailer brought a landmark lawsuit against eBay in 2004 alleges that the company wasn’t doing enough to stop counterfeiting and in some cases was abetting it directly by advertising sales of fake Tiffany jewelry. Tiffany & Co., the 150-year-old upscale jewelry company, found 73 percent of sales on eBay involved frauds.
