Conference Details

Nearly 200 leaders in the IP industry convened at the IACC 2017 Fall Conference in Marina Del Rey, California. While there, experts representing brands and organizations from 18 countries explored news ways to address the global threat of counterfeit goods. Read ahead for highlights from the Conference.

A new collaboration with Amazon

The opening ceremony offered a glimpse into new collaborations and partnerships. During his keynote speech, IACC President Bob Barchiesi announced that the organization will begin a pilot program in partnership with Amazon at the end of the year. With this first step, the IACC will create countless opportunities for innovative engagement with Amazon and brands. More details will be provided in the upcoming weeks. The IACC’s cooperation with Amazon builds upon the organization’s collaborative strategy as the foundation for impactful programs to combat counterfeiting.

Development of a Strategic Plan

It was also announced that the IACC has retained “OPIS”, a professional organizational consulting firm, to assist the Board of Directors and senior staff with developing a three-year strategic plan. IACC member input on the organization and new ideas will be collected by OPIS via an anonymous survey. Mr. Barchiesi underscored the importance of member feedback and participation.

Best Practice Sharing and Networking

This fall the IACC tackled the most relevant and up-to-date topics regarding IP and brand protection in its expertly curated workshops and panels. Some of these include: Valuing the Brand Protection Function, Law and Changing Technologies, Online Risks, Public Awareness and how law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles address counterfeiting in the city.

The Conference’s daily networking receptions allowed attendees to come together and think critically about solutions for brand protection in a less formal setting while exploring new business opportunities and creating new relationships.

Training Law Enforcement

While in California, the IACC completed a successful training session in Los Angeles, in partnership with the LAPD and Investigative Consultants. The session, which was attended by more than 125 individuals, is the first-ever to be cyber focused for law enforcement. You can read more about the LA training session here.
