IACC 2018 Spring Conference Bridging the Divide - Global Collaboration and New Partnerships to Fight Counterfeits
May 16-18, 2018 - Seattle, Washington

The IACC 2018 Spring Conference attracted nearly 500 attendees from more than 40 countries in Seattle, Washington, USA. With this year’s theme focused on “Bridging the Divide - Global Collaboration and New Partnerships to Fight Counterfeits,” discussions centered on forming and expanding collaborative efforts to address counterfeiting.

At the event, IP experts, rights holders, service providers, intermediaries and government officials came together to learn, network and share best practices.

Conference Highlights

For the first time, representatives from Amazon, Crime Stoppers and the U.S. Customs & Border Protection’s Centers for Excellence and Expertise joined Google, eBay and other companies in hosting roundtable discussions at the IACC Spring Conference. Attendees were able to discuss and share their thoughts on enhancing anti-counterfeiting measures.

This year, the IACC Spring Conference introduced the first "Fireside Chat Series," a set of constructive dialogues between brand representatives and intermediaries on online counterfeiting. Attendees were able to receive up-to-date information and participate in intimate discussions with representatives from the Alibaba Group, Amazon, eBay and major payment processors (Visa, MasterCard, Western Union and Moneygram).

Participants also had an opportunity to hear firsthand from experts in the public and private sector with panels and presentations covering online enforcement, cross-border cooperation, and cutting-edge brand protection strategies.

A Decade of Leadership

This year marks the 10th year that IACC President Bob Barchiesi has led the organization, the longest serving President to date. The IACC Board celebrated his tenure at the Opening Ceremony. While presenting an award to Bob, IACC Board Chair Dawn Atlas said, “We would not have the collaborative programs, the worldwide recognition nor the team of skilled staff without your leadership and mentorship.”

Keynote Speaker

Vishal Amin, Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator at the White House, gave the keynote speech, highlighting IP as a critical driver for innovation and a key component in the framework for a strong economy. Mr. Amin also emphasized the importance of global partnerships in protecting intellectual property.

IACC MarketSafe Expansion Program

Rights holders looking to participate in the IACC MarketSafe Expansion Program attended a special informational session with IACC staff. The program, developed in partnership with Alibaba Group, provides rights-holders access to expedited registration, take-down procedures and complaint submissions on all of Alibaba's online platforms at no cost. It builds a bridge between rights-holders and Alibaba and helps rights holders understand how to achieve effective enforcement on Alibaba platforms.

The IACC is accepting applications for new participants. Email marketsafeinfo@iacc.org for more information.

Networking Receptions

The IACC Spring Conference held a welcome reception on the first day where attendees were able to network, unwind and meet their IP peers in the elegant ballroom foyer.

Throughout the three-day event, attendees took networking breaks and visited the exhibition hall between panels, workshops and roundtable sessions. Guests were able to conduct business, form new connections and chat amongst each other.
