IACC Statement on the White House’s Nomination of Vishal J. Amin for U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator

The White House announced President Donald Trump’s nomination of Vishal J. Amin, a Senior Counsel on the House Judiciary Committee, to fill the position of U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC).

The International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition (IACC) was a strong supporter of the legislation which led to the Office’s creation in 2008, and has worked closely with the previous IPECs on behalf of rights-holders in the United States. Recently the IACC announced its support of the IPEC’s Joint Strategic Plan, which provides recommendations for stronger and more effective enforcement in the country. The Office of the IPEC has also been a vocal supporter of the voluntary collaborative approach exemplified by the RogueBlock and IACC MarketSafe programs.

IACC President Bob Barchiesi said of the announcement, “Mr. Amin’s years as a public servant in both the Executive and Legislative Branches of government make him well-qualified to assume the position of U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator; I urge the Senate to act swiftly in considering his nomination. Intellectual property is vital to the U.S. economy, and the IPEC plays a vital role in developing and implementing a cohesive policy across the Executive Branch agencies tasked with protecting and enforcing IP rights. The IACC looks forward to continuing its collaborative relationship with the Office and our other government partners in the U.S. and abroad.”
